Alumina (Al₂O₃) Ceramic Balls

Ball Bearing

High-Hardness, Chemically Inert & Thermally Stable

Alumina (Al₂O₃) ceramic balls from Atlas Ball & Bearing are engineered for applications requiring exceptional hardness, excellent chemical resistance, and high thermal stability. With outstanding wear performance and extremely low thermal conductivity, alumina balls are ideal for demanding environments where metals or polymers would fail.

As a high-strength technical ceramic, alumina maintains its properties under extreme temperatures, aggressive chemicals, vacuum conditions, and high loads, making it widely used in chemical processing (except HF or hot sulphuric acid), aerospace, medical equipment, electronics, and precision mechanical systems.

Why Choose Alumina Ceramic Balls?

Alumina balls provide a superior combination of mechanical strength, wear resistance, and chemical inertness. They maintain dimensional accuracy under high temperatures and resist most corrosion and abrasion. They are not suitable for hydrofluoric acid or hot sulphuric acid.

Key Benefits

  • Extremely high hardness and wear resistance
  • Excellent corrosion and chemical resistance
  • High temperature stability
  • Electrically insulating
  • Low thermal conductivity
  • Non-magnetic and non-porous
  • Long service life in abrasive, corrosive, or high-temperature environments
  • Ideal for precision, high-performance engineering applications

Manufacturing & Supply

We are capable of manufacturing and supplying loose alumina ceramic balls in nearly every variation of grade, maintaining an extensive stock with sizes ranging from 0.2mm to 150mm in diameter.

Applications

Alumina balls are widely used where metals, plastics, or lower-grade ceramics cannot withstand environmental conditions.

Typical applications include:

  • High-performance bearings

  • Chemical processing and pump components

  • Valves, flow meters, and corrosive fluid systems

  • Medical devices and precision instruments

  • Electrical and electronic insulation

  • Aerospace and vacuum technology

  • High-temperature mechanical systems

  • Grinding, milling, and filtration media

Alumina is particularly suited for continuous operation in corrosive, high-wear, or high-thermal-load environments.

Useful terms and definitions

Batch or Lot:

A defined quantity of balls manufactured under conditions presumed to be uniform and which is considered an entity.

Nominal Ball Diameter:

The diameter value that is used for the general identification of a ball size.

Single Ball Diameter:

The distance between two parallel planes tangential to the actual ball surface.

Diameter Tolerance per Batch:

The allowed difference between the smallest measured ball diameter and the largest ball diameter within the same batch or lot quantity.

Sphericity:

A measure of roundness expressed as the difference between the measured roundness of a ball and a theoretically perfectly round ball.

Surface Finish or Roughness:

A measure of the texture of a surface. It is quantified by the vertical deviations of the actual surface from its ideal form. If these deviations are large, the surface is rough; if they are small, the surface is smooth.
