Applications of Precision Plastic Balls
Plastic balls are widely used across industries for their lightweight, corrosion resistance, non-magnetic properties, and chemical compatibility. Their versatility makes them ideal for both functional and precision applications in:
- Medical & Pharmaceutical – Biocompatible plastics such as PTFE and PEEK are used in fluid handling systems, valves, and components for diagnostic and surgical equipment.
- Aerospace & Automotive – Lightweight engineering plastics like Nylon and Delrin® reduce weight and friction in moving parts, control systems, and fuel components.
- Water Treatment & Chemical Processing – Polypropylene and polyethylene balls resist chemical attack and moisture absorption, making them ideal for use in filtration systems, check valves, and floatation applications.
- Food & Beverage– FDA-approved plastics like PTFE and HDPE are used in food-safe environments for mixing, flow control, and non-stick applications.
- Laboratory & Scientific Equipment – Polystyrene and Polyacetal provide low-friction, non-reactive components for precise mechanical devices and instruments.
- Electronics & Electrical Systems – Non-conductive plastics such as Phenolic Resin and Torlon® are used for insulating components, switches, and low-friction mechanical interfaces.
- General Industrial Applications – Plastic balls are used in rollers, bearings, check valves, pumps, and casters due to their durability, low weight, and ability to operate in corrosive environments.

Useful terms and definitions
Batch or Lot:
A defined quantity of balls manufactured under conditions presumed to be uniform and which is considered an entity.
Nominal Ball Diameter:
The diameter value that is used for the general identification of a ball size.
Single Ball Diameter:
The distance between two parallel planes tangential to the actual ball surface.
Diameter Tolerance per Batch:
The allowed difference between the smallest measured ball diameter and the largest ball diameter within the same batch or lot quantity.
Sphericity:
A measure of roundness expressed as the difference between the measured roundness of a ball and a theoretically perfectly round ball.
Surface Finish or Roughness:
A measure of the texture of a surface. It is quantified by the vertical deviations of the actual surface from its ideal form. If these deviations are large, the surface is rough; if they are small, the surface is smooth.
